What is a .BIBTEX file?
The most common data format on the web.
A .bibtex file is a plain-text BibTeX bibliography database - the same format as .bib, just with a non-standard longer extension. It contains reference entries like @article{...} and @book{...} for use with LaTeX. Open it in JabRef, Zotero, or any text editor. If a tool refuses to load it, rename the file from .bibtex to .bib - the contents are identical.
