What is a .DXR file?
Everything worth knowing about Adobe Director Protected Movie.
A DXR file is a protected (locked, non-editable) movie made with Macromedia/Adobe Director, an interactive multimedia application, not a plain video. To open it you need the Adobe Shockwave Player, discontinued in April 2019. In 2026 there is no maintained player; the only realistic options are an archived Shockwave build on an isolated offline machine or asset-extraction tools like ProjectorRays.

The MKV (no re-encode) option copies every track as-is. MP4 and WEBM keep the first video and audio track, which is what most players use.
Why can't some files be converted?
Files protected with DRM (for example purchased iTunes .m4p songs or some .wmv rentals) are encrypted. We can show what's inside, but nobody can convert them without the key.
