What is a .KEXI file?

Frequently asked questions

Is my .KEXI file uploaded anywhere?

No. The SQLite engine (compiled to WebAssembly) is downloaded once to your browser and opens your .KEXI file locally. Your data never reaches FileExtension.org.

Can I change data with UPDATE or DELETE?

Yes - any SQL works, but changes only live in memory. Use Download database to save a modified copy; your original file is never touched.

Why does my .db file say it isn't SQLite?

Many programs use the .db extension for their own formats (for example Windows Thumbs.db or Paradox tables). The viewer checks the file's signature and tells you what it really is.

Can it open encrypted databases?

Not yet. Encrypted databases (SQLCipher, used by some messengers) look like random data without the key, so they can't be read.

What about the -wal and -shm files next to my database?

They hold recent changes that haven't been merged into the main file yet. Open the main database file; very recent changes stored only in the -wal file won't be visible.
