What is a .WEM file?

A WEM file is a Wwise Encoded Media audio stream, a compressed sound asset from a video game built with Audiokinetic Wwise. Standard players like VLC cannot play it because it uses a proprietary codec layer. To play or convert it, use vgmstream (free, open-source): either the command-line tool or the foobar2000 plugin. WEM files usually come packaged inside .bnk SoundBanks, so you may need to unpack those first.

The MKV (no re-encode) option copies every track as-is. MP4 and WEBM keep the first video and audio track, which is what most players use.
Why can't some files be converted?
Files protected with DRM (for example purchased iTunes .m4p songs or some .wmv rentals) are encrypted. We can show what's inside, but nobody can convert them without the key.
