What is a .PPS file?

Everything worth knowing about PowerPoint 97-2003 Slide Show files.

A PPS file is a PowerPoint 97-2003 slide show, the same binary format as .ppt, but set to open straight into full-screen playback instead of the editor. Open it with Microsoft PowerPoint, LibreOffice Impress, Google Slides, or PowerPoint for the web. To edit it, open it in PowerPoint and Save As, or rename the file from .pps to .ppt.

Is my .PPS file uploaded anywhere?

No. Your .PPS file is unpacked and drawn for you.

Will it look exactly like in PowerPoint?

Close, but not pixel-perfect. Text, shapes, pictures, tables, colours and the theme are redrawn from the file. Animations, transitions, charts, SmartArt and some special effects are simplified or skipped.

Can I see the speaker notes?

Yes. Notes appear under the current slide whenever the author added them, and they're counted in the info panel.

What about old .PPT files?

For PowerPoint 97-2003 files the viewer extracts the text of every slide, titles and bullets included, but doesn't draw the layout yet. Save the file as PPTX for a full preview.

And Apple Keynote?

Keynote files keep their slides in a proprietary format. If the file contains its built-in preview image we show it; otherwise export the deck from Keynote as PPTX or PDF.
